Stroking a John Deere A

green puller

What is the most stroke that can be put in a unstyled John Deere A and stay with a 3 inch journal? Will 2.75 hold up to a murphy's 6.5 inch bore block, if so what is the most stroke? Any experiances with murphy's motorsport? Any opinions on who has the best cam?

9 inch is possible with 3 inch journal, 9.5 with 2.75, We run a 9 by 6.75 with 2.75 journals, but the gentlemen who built the crank has never had a welded crank break. His strategy is top notch. I would say go with 3 inch journal if you don't have alot of faith in your crank builder. If you want to talk you can email me or call me 9892775366 P.S DONT get a Berry cam. Very disapointed with there grind on the A's, Others may disagree but that is my personal experience

Jacks # is 4026542217. If you use his block, don't run too much timing. Its really hard on them and they will break ears off, and you need to reinforce them. Schooler runs a isky grind. We had one and it ran great, but there are other good grinds. Jim Benjamin made the crank.

I have built two tractors with Murphys engines,[one was unstyled] and have the third one closed up and ready to put the frame and the rest back together.9 inch crank with 3 inch journals, billet rods, 6 1/2 inch block, cam, roller rockers.every thing fit perfect and rolled as free as any engine I have put together.pricey but very high quailty. If you have any questions, that I can help you with. e-mail is open.
