I've gone through the old posts on this site and think stub guards would help keep my mower from clogging in wet/thick hay. I'm mowing about 20 acres of orchardgrass/timothy/alfalfa mix, and 10 acres of thick clover. I've adjusted everything as well as I can, but grass will hang up on the points of the rock guards occasionally, and get caught in the space forward of the knife sections in the guards.
Has anyone put stub guards from Shoup on an IH 990 haybine? See catalog below...I was planning on using the SH250 guards with the SH232 adjustable hold-downs. I'm not sure what the function of the spacers SH76256 and SH71956 are, as I thought the ridge on the stub guard was high enough to clear the knife. Do I need them and how does it all go together?
