Stubborn 2N

Whitespy

Have been trying to get my '47 2N 6 Volt front mount going. I checked compression and had no readings so I pulled the head and found most of the valves open. When I turned the engine over, none of them moved. The tractor had sit for 2 years. Is this going to get expensive?

whitespy,Get you a can of PB Blaster then spray all the valves stems down under the face.Soak the stems down good then let them soak overnight. The next day spray them down again. Then using a wooden hammer handle gently tap down on the valves.Roll the engine over and tap the ones that were on the cam lobe.Keep rolling the engine over spraying and tapping gently till you have them all freed up and no more stick open when roll the engine over. You may have to remove the valve covers and spray there also.

Do as Den says.
A little patience and a little tinkering could save you a lot of dough.
While you have the head off check to see how much ring ridge you have in the cylinders. That will tell you a lot about the condition of your cylinders.

ditto what the others said. most of the time.. non bent stuck valves can be worked free with penetrants.

I'd add some atf or mmo to the oil and gas .. she will smoke a bit/. but it will help them move. alternately, some mix oil in the gas will help too..
