Gentlemen what percentage of the time when a 2cyl. is stuck has the engine turned out to be ok? if cannot be freed does that mean a definite splitting is in order.

Can't give you a percentage, but stuck is not a good thing!

Can't give percentages but I know out of 20 plus tractors I have had that where locked up and I freed them only 2 could not be saved with out major engine work. All the ones that did free up I didn't pull the head off of any of them, did pull a few valve covers because of stuck valves but that was it. I run 5 or 6 of them here on the farm off and on and they all still run well. My 1935 JD-B was locked up for more then 15 years and I didn't do much to it other then replace the oil pump drive coupler and I use it every summer to rake hay with

I assume you are talking about a Deere.

If it is a Deere you don't have to split it, just take the engine block out. Granted based on the year you still might have to split it, but the worse thing that would entail would be to remove the from rails which isn't too bad (been there done it). If you can just pull the block out then just undo the rods from the crank through the opening and pull it free. Then you can decided how to get the little devils out.

Have you tried dumping magic oil or diesel or anything like that in there and just letting it soak? Sometimes it will help it get free. Just remember it took a while to get stuck and will take a while to get unstuck.
