help. i left the clutch engaged this winter and now find it froze to the flywheel. i have tried towing the ford 8-N in all gears pushing the clutch pedal in and out. no luck thus far. is there any trick to freeing the clutch short of breaking the cases open. thanks dennis morse

I guess now that you have a stuck clutch it won't do you much good to say 'block the clutch as part of winter storage'.

Front or side distributor?

If it's a side distributor, spray brake cleaner in the timing hole.

Remove the starter & do the same thing. (see tip # 36 before you do that)

Remember.........the clutch is behind the flywheel.

Well #1 block the pedal down when you park it. #2 if it is an easy starting tractor start it in gear and drive it around some place where you can do so safely holding the clutch down all the time in the highest gear you can. It may take a good ride to do so or it might free up in 100 yards. BTDT to many times

If you have had it started in neutral,(I do this to make sure it will run)tow it to a hill and put it in a higher gear and get it rolling and started, hit the brakes while holding the clutch in and it will break loose, you can do this with someone pulling you with another tractor as long as he can stay out of your way. works every time.

go ahead and block the clutch for a day.. it may pop loose. if not.. set in seat and keep clutch blocked, brakes locked too.. heck.. hookup a mower to the pto and engage it too..gas off, and use a tool to short past the neutral safety switch to the trans top .. just bump it over.. keep doing it. usually after a few bumps it lets loose.

Get a load on it like a mower, plow or such go to work with it, after you have it warmed up try plowing or mowing with the clutch in.

it"s happened to me a few times. seems if it sits in a dry barn it doesn"t happen. so many many years ago I drilled a hole in the bellhousing so I could stick a screwdriver in and pry the clutch plate off the flywheel. it does not take but just a touch to break it loose even though you have been very rough with it by other methods. if you see this post and want to try it, email me and I will give you the position of the half inch hole to drill. a short bolt and washer, will seal it back up.
