stuck in 1st gear

jerry,

when you get the gears unstuck!

I had the same problem with the transmission on my old 1957 TO-35 gears would stick from time to time.

what I noticed was that happen when I was backing up, then stopped to change to a forward gear. I guess the normal back pressure when you come to a stop backing up, you pull up on the gear shift lever as you shift.

so I learned to never, never, never, pull up on the gearshift lever when I am shifting.

that was years ago and so far I have not had the gears lock up any more.

problem as I understand it is the shift rails are worn and the upward pull on the shift lever will allow the shifter forks to cross or bind.

do not know if that is true or not, but I do know that taking my time shifting and never pulling up on the shift lever has stopped the shifter binding.

good luck,

when did you change transmission/hyd oil, may need some clean oil in there.

I got the massey out of gear .The oil looks good I will change it before long. Thanks for the help.Everone have a nice labor day e
