My solution I guess is to get a huge bushing then weld it all the way around.... with a hole for the axle / pin in the middle of course. I could counter sink 4 holes for bolts as well.. thoughts anyone??

I would not weld that cast iron ,it will absorb all the carbon and make the hub sleeves brittle. No no ! Up to you ,your wheel , I beg you

Now the time to consult people that repair these unit for a living. What I suggest .

I agree I would much prefer to find used idler rather than fix. However I doubtful I can find something so old.

Not being there , or knowing what you have available to you it s difficult to recommend .
At photos glance my thought would be
Might do rough rms turning on lathe ,build up with oxy/ acetylene braze and refinishing to oem specs all the worn areas .then make the shaft out of 4140 for example .

Where are you located?? 3 out of the 4 hole for the bushings could get enlarged then order a bushing to fit. i found a place that makes them order to fit. The one side though the entire collar broke off. So for that side I am thinking I could order a 3 1/8" circular piece of steel and that could sit inside the larger holder where the seal was. But Im open to suggestions!! See this included picture. Not the collar that held the bushings GONE!

I am buying a bridgeport Mill and should be able to enlarge and clean up three of the four holes then order custom sized bushings. The fourth hole is bad. Completely missing the collar that holds the bushing. Somebody here posted not to try and weld on a new collar??

I'll try and explain more clearly... each wheel [ idler ] has two bearing surfaces... an inner and outer. See pic.

Three out of the four look like this [ see pic ] They are damaged and will no longer hold a stock sized bushing. But they can be enlarged and made straight. Right now they are wore from rubbing directly on the pin / axle. I think I can fix this with my bridgeport.

One of the bearing surfaces looks like this [ see pic ]. It's wore completely past the collar that held the bushing. I sm not sure how to fix this one. Either A- weld on a new collar [ which would probably break ] or B- crate a much larger collar that goes all the way out to outer rim you see with the blue line and arrows. I am leaning towards doing that. I could then weld it in place all the way around the lip and or bolt it on with 4 recessed bolts or both. I think that' probably what I will do.

If I do it correctly I shouldn't need a lathe. I will buy two new pins / axels made of 4140 eh?? 4140 is strong??
 

My brother inlaw, who has a machine shop made my upright shafts for the front spindles for my tractor out of Shaft proof. I don't know if that's comparable of not.

Me again. So here's where i'm at. I actually bought a bridgeport. Been wanting one for years seems like now is a good time. I'm looking at McMasters for bushings and new idlers pin / axles. But I have a few questions need answered before I proceed. First what type of metal should I make the new bushings out of. Here's some options https://www.mcmaster.com/products/bushings/ second what should I get then pin / axel made of?? Third what kind of clearance should I leave between the pin and new bushings?? and four what is a good 'press' size ?? I will be using the bridgeport to clean up the idlers ready to accept new bushings. I will press them in,, but what's a good tolerance on that?? .0005 biggie than the opening?? The same and put the bushing in the freezer first?? Any idea's on that I'd appreciate it. I'm going to deviate from the original design and instead of two bushings just do one long one and then drill several hole in them center which will allow some grease or oil to seep in between the bushing and the axel. Anyway if you or anybody else has ideas on this let me know!! It wasn't easy getting that bridgeport in my garage it's a heavy sucker. But very cool!!!
