what is best way to remove cylinder head stud bolts on jd 730 ?
Gas or diesel, and what are you up to that you need to remove them?

If you are having machine work done that requires the studs to be removed and you are asking this because you are inexperienced in such things you will be money and aggravation ahead to have the machine shop do the removal.

I would take 2 nuts and tighten them together tight then probably can by using the nut that would tend to tighten them as you unscrewed them would take them out of the block. IF not doing any engine machining and there is not a problem why remove them. Yes studs are a bit of a pain to work around for cleaning the surface but less than getting all the studs out.

The double nut truck may work, but the studs have likely been in there so long that it's going to take a little more persuasion. That's been my experience. Even double nuts slip, or strip the threads off the stud. Then you've just made yourself more work.

There are all sorts of stud removal tools available. You'll probably need one of the more expensive professional stud extractors that machine shops use, though, not the cheap ones they sell at the auto parts store.

Stud extractors generally ruin the stud so you'll need new ones.

A 24 inch pipe wrench would do the same job. But it’s not a common practice to remove studs. Then u can have screwed up threads in the block.

Be sure to soak the threads going into the block with penetrating oil. Give them at least 2 shots of penetrant each day for several days before trying to remove them.

Omg that is a waste of time. If u take ur tractor to a shop do u want them waiting for days for oil to loosen a stud ??? And charge u the labour ?

I got them out of my A without much trouble. I have a Lisle stud extractor but it didn't work well, only slipped. Ended up using a pipe wrench. The trouble with the double nut method is the long studs need to be backed up closer to the nuts.
