studs

I want to put new studs in the block of a farmall H. do you guys put the studs in and let the thread seal set or do you put the head on and torque the nuts down before the thread seal is set up, will Permatex thread seal be ok How long do I run the engine before I retorque the head. Thank you.

The instruction for ARP fasteners for V8 heads says use nothing when screwing the studs into the block. I use red Loctite and never seize on my head hardware and I don't retorque.

I seal the studs that go into the water jacket. I also use a piece of 1/2" pipe to allow me to pull up modestly (20Ft pounds or so) on the stud while the Locktite sets, then install the head. After running to operating temp (cardboard over the radiator), I retorque by breaking the set on each nut (one at a time) by loosening a smallest fraction of a turn, then torquing to spec. I find that the wrench usually tightens substantially more, maybe an eight of a turn. I use Moly anti seize on the nut threads. Jim

What Jim said, and run your valve adjustment again after retorque.
