Hi all : I did it this time, I was so proud of getting 15 years on this battery, tried to start one more time would not, bought new $200.00 six volt battery , put it in nothing , so I bought new solenoid, voltage regulator, key switch, and push button switch, just replaced solenoid and new battery try this first, when I hocked battery up positive ground blew the top of battery off good one Ed, 15 years ago replaced wiring harness, voltage regulator, solenoid, rebuilt starter, and alternator, now I’m thinking rebuild starter again , and replace new parts I bought, you would think after 80 one would know a little more after having this 53 ford golden jubilee, plowing snow and rear dump bucket for 40 years, any help is appreciated, THANKS ALL, TURMAN

Did you do any diagnostic testing before you swapped all of those parts? Do you have a volt meter to test things with?

Just swapping parts is never a good idea,

Without some specifics no one is going to be able to help much.

The edit feature works you can delete the text one of these duplicate posts and just type something like "Deleted duplicate post" That way the replies to your problem will stay in one thread.

I will ask, How did you test the battery to confirm it was dead? Did you check for good connections at both ends of both battery cables? Where is the Positive ground cable connected to the tractor (sheet metal or to the actual chassis)?

Test before throwing parts at it.

Take a deep breath and put your wallet away. I'm guessing you have a 6v system and your tractor wouldn't turn over so you bought a new 6v battery and it wouldn't turn over. Everything after that is a blur including how you blew up a battery.

"replaced wiring harness, voltage regulator, solenoid, rebuilt starter, and alternator,"

An alternator is normally 12 volts negative ground. So do you have an alternator or a generator? 6 volt, positive ground with alternator does not sound right. A picture would help.

Hi rvirgil ks I meant generator, it 6 volt not changed, my car mechanic said I might have taken out starter trying to start it too much with bad battery, this could have blown up battery , I need to check that. Ed

Truman, I don't think you would have ruined the starter trying to start it with a bad battery. It sounds to me like the battery might have been gassing and then you made a spark when reconnecting it? Hard to tell. So, where do you stand right now? Does the tractor start? Can you use it?

Hi Jim : Brought the battery back to Interstate, they gave me a new one and said don’t over charge these new batteries, I did charge the new battery when I bought the first one, I have a new solenoid coming dident want to chance the old one , now I’m wondering about voltage regulator if that could be a problem, I have a service manual coming from Stiner tractor maybe I can get a little smarter with electrics ???? Ed

I would wait till you git the tractor running and watch the ammeter to see if the charging system is working. In my experience with my old NAA, I couldn't get a voltage regulator that would work right.

Thanks Jim l, rvirgil Ks for all the help, put new solenoid in hooked it up right, more carefull with battery, started right up, starter ok and charging ,neighbors happy I will be able to keep road clear of snow if we get anything sizeable, THANKS ALL, ED🥸
