did they ever make gas pistons for a model D tractor? looking at a styled 1948 and the engine is stuck but with my borescope it looks like it has flat top cast iron pistons in it.

"They" is a pretty broad term, so I would have to say yes.

JD did offer a "gas" kit of high compression pistons/cold manifold for the D. Also JD did offer the D as a gas burner starting in 51'. Pretty sure there were aftermarket companies too that made gas kits for the D.

One of them has .045 oversized Flat top Cast pistons...

Also a manifold cast in CANADA designed to operate on Gasoline....

I never answered your question, as I do not know for sure the answer.....

the unstyled D had flat top pistons. They were a distillate burning tractor.
