Need to toe a non running tractor about 2 miles it has a hydrostatic trans. Mahendra emax20e with loader and backhoe

Hello Chuck, welcome to YT! I found this manual for a Emax20s online by spelling Mahindra correctly and placing Emax20E behind it in a search. Mahindra manual I want to say you can probably access the Operator’s Manual for your tractor through the Mahindra website. Opening that manual on my phone I did not find any instructions on towing the tractor in the inoperable state. That manual being also for a Hydrostatic transmission model I would think it would include the same precautions. Maybe opening it on a computer you may be able to search in it. Knowing that towing a hydrostatic transmission without activating a disengagement device often can lead to damage of the drive system I would make every effort to learn the correct process before towing it an inch. Best of luck!

I would trailer it home.
It is a 4x4, You might push on the go pedal and see if it rolls easier.
Some HSTs don't have brakes, the go pedal acts as the brakes.

All the sub-compacts that I'm familiar with have a high-neutral-low tansmission downstream of the hydrostat. As long as this transmission is in neutral the tractor can be rolled. 2 miles is a long ways, though, and trailering might be better for it. Steering the "heavy on both ends" tractor with no power steering could be dicey.

The Emax20E is like a lawn tractor. No transmission, only hydrostatic.

It being a 4x4 I can't say it can be safely towed. May call the dealer.

What problems prevent the engine from running?

I took a look at the manual and it appears that the 'sub shift lever' has a neutral position that allows it to roll without damaging the hydrostat.

But, as others stated, 2 miles is a long way and IMO a trailer is a much better solution.

I was unaware that Mahindra made this size machine. Looks a lot like Kubota's similar sized. The transmisssion with the mid and rear PTO is similar to the JD big lawn/garden tractors, except JD has no nuetral. Wonder who makes it?

All 4 of my sub compact 4x4s (Kubota 88, 92, 2015 and JD 2000) have a H/L neutral lever and roll easily in neutral. That being said, I wouldn't risk towing any of them 2 miles unless it was an extreme emergency and I could afford to ruin something. I agree with others about seeing what the manufacture recommends.
