Subframe for 3pto backhoe

Has anyone built a subframe for a 3 pt backhoe? I have a 4000 SU with a 730 loader (3400 front end) . I bought an international 3pt hoe that is very heavy. I've used it a little for light ditch work but plan to bolt it solid for some culvert placement. It has a sleeve for the drawback which makes lifting it into place difficult. I was thinking of U-bolting some channel to the loader frame for the lower pins. If doing that would I need to run all the way to front axle or would going as far as the operator station be sufficientb since since the pressure is on the loader already? I still need to be able to remove it for plowing, hogging and such. Any suggestions for the top link?

Last question: the original pto pump quit and the owner replaced it with a bigger one (29 gpm he said). The movement is powerful but erratic(too fast). Should I downsize the pump or get different controls? I'm mostly looking at cost. The higher flow pump on it does leak around the shaft if left on the pto. If I hang it higher than the tank it's good. (resale concern). How hard are they to rebuild?

I have never built one but I have a hoe for my Kubota that has permanent subframe that attaches to two brackets that attach to the tractor. The front bracket is permanently mounted at right around mid tractor. The rear attachment is a bracket that hooks into a permanent bracket just ahead of the axle, and also to the lift arm mount points. There is a top link that pins into where the normal top link would go and runs horizontally back to the hoe.



So far as the pump, how much experience do you have on a hoe? What may seem fast and erratic may become comfortable after an hour of use. Always keep two cylinders moving at the same time for smooth operation.

This has come up often recently, do a search for recent posts on this board for a backhoe mount. The photos are of a Dearborn 4 point backhoe mount, it runs past the rear axle to the front. The 730 loader should provide the continuation of the frame on the lower arms that clamp onto the rear axle. You would have to design a connection to the back end of it and the axle somehow to create the subframe. I am not sure how that would mate up to it's current mount, nor how you would create a substantial connection to the loader frame at the rear axle.

I have an 850 Ford with a 4 point mount for what I was told by the previous owner was a Sherman power digger. This mount mates up to the Wagner loader at the rear axle with a flange type connection with several bolts fastening it together. Together it creates the subframe that will distribute the load of the backhoe. The weak area is the span just forward of the rear axle, that is where the Wagner loader broke on mine, previous owner(s) were not kind to this tractor and likely were abusive in operating it.

The set up you describe, sounds like a close match to a light industrial, non adjustable 3400/light industrial front axle, and I thought a ford backhoe was available for these, if so, you may want to look at a parts diagram of this in regards to mounting.

The top link connection can also take some abuse, my 850's pin boss for the top link, part of the cast rear housing, has a hairline fracture, no doubt from shock loads from the backhoe it had at one time.

Ford made rails for their 750 hoe to mount
to that tractor. The for points are two
big hooks on the rails and two big hooks
bolted to the rail from the top that clamp
downward. Could be easily adapted to your
piece from there. They are plentiful at
scrap yards as they were good machines just
passed up by technology. I made my bracket
too put rails on 3400 front end. 3500 has
brackets that bolt directly to the nose.

I learned on an old 2wd jd and then a new
holland when 19. Both were smooth as
butter compared to what this does. The
seller described it as "it can swat a fly
on the wall". I nowunderstand what he was
getting at. Using 2 cylinders at a time
does calm it down but the main boom
cylinder and swing are almost
uncontrolable.

They did make a backhoe setup for the 3400
but it was more permanent. I like the idea
of having a piece of channel sliding into
bigger channel that is permanent to the
loader frame. I could weld something up
like a snowplow design to back into that
self aligns maybe and would be easier to
change out. And put class 2 pins through it
. I could probably connect heavy
stabilizer bars to help side to side
pressure and attach the top link to a cross
member and run it as a 2pt?
