Went an saw a 1950 8N tractor today. It's been sitting in this old barn for at least 20 years the old timer says. I took my home hand crank with me and the engine cranks real nice. The front tires are shot. The gas tank is clean and shiny. I'm sure the carb is plugged with old gas. Body is straight with no rust. The guy wants $600 for it. He also has a two bottom plow and a disc harrow. Trying to get it all for the 600

Offer him 800 for the lot! I would in heart beat. maybe even 1000.

Whew, oh boy! If you don't scarf it up I will. I see many positives here. I'd go $1500 or more for the package as long as the block isn't cracked. On the tractor, by the s/n it is a mid to late 1952 model, with angle mount distributor and Proofmeter -that's good. The wiring will need to be corrected -don't know what that white thingy is, but it ain't supposed to be there. Looks like the original Ford Tract-O-Lite headlights and original 8N Worklight. Tires are ??? -rears don't match and fronts are some sort of truck style. Sheet metal is real good-straight and only minor surface rust. the steering wheel looks nice and straight -how's the steering? The Dearborn Moldboard Plow has the original coulters AND Jointers -A rare bonus. The disc harrow may be a Dearborn -is there an ID Tag on it? The 11-hole drawbar may be original too -is the Ford p/n 9N-5182 cast on it? It also shows the Ferguson Swinging Drawbar attached so look under the diffy case for the clevis bracket. The original flat bar top link is there too. Even if ten engine is blown, at $600 you can't beat it.

I read the serial number as 8N 273975 which falls in the range for 1950.
The steering is real tight...front tires are practically flat so easy to tell about the steering
Radiator is full of antifreeze so block is good
Cool tract-O-lites front and rear

Yes it is a 2 -my mistake, but still a side mount distributor and that's the important thing. Glad you got it -never gonna see that deal again.

got her running today...averaged about 100+ lbs of compression on each cylinder. Carb wasn't all gunked up like I expected..will still have to get carb kit to rebuild. About 45 Lbs. of oil pressure.

Major rewiring needs to be done that is expected on a 68 yr. old tractor.

3 Point not working so may need an overhaul. I doubt new oil will correct the problem

I wonder if draining the mud/sludge from the tranny and rear end and putting in new oil will fix the nonworking 3 point.

I thought about putting diesel in there to circulate around

Anybody ever do that to clean out the tranny and hydraulic pump??

From what I heard, you have to pull the pto shaft out and then drop the pump (still have to do that to ours, fall or winter job

White thingy is a resistor, looks like she's been swapped to 12v, by the Delco alternator - stuck a resistor in instead of swapping to a 12v coil, done that before. Looks like a nice solid base for a user!

$600 is a good price. I would jump on it. I would rather keep the original Ford 6v coil than use a new over seas 12v coil. What I really like is the cute little VC Case. That is the tractor I would buy!
