Nearly as Iconic in Europe as the VW Beetle, this little DAF 55 car was very popular during the 1970's and 80's. An older friend back then who had not held a driving licence before, bought one as a runabout, passed her test, and used it for many years with little or no trouble. It could, just about, hold four people and had an 1100cc engine with a fully automatic, belt drive transmission. Yes, drive was taken from engine to the rear wheels by two 'V' belts and vacuum operated clutches with the speed being changed, similar to a combine harvester, the pulley diameters being varied.

V belts are quite common now. The Subaru I drive is equipped. It may be in a CVT transmission with sophisticated controls running in fluid, but they work, and are found in tractors.
Jim I further believe that everything that pleases our contributing population of participants, bringing them together, every day solving issues whether here or in the brand specific forums id in the best interest of our host corporation. The tractor channel would be less engaging without the diversity. We do get things done. We do search the parts store for answers, we do help people. I keep coming back. Jim

If one wants to get really picky about it, there are many topics discussed on this forum that would be more appropriate in Tractor Tales. But if the moderators are OK with it, that's all that matters. It's their forum not ours. No one is forcing any of us to read the stuff we don't like.
I look forward to the puzzle pictures each day. I don't often do the actual puzzles, but I enjoy looking at the pictures and reading the information and comments. Lots of good stuff there!
