Super 55 Battery Size

I'm going to pick up a 1955 Super 55 hopefully next weekend and the seller mentioned that he is not including a battery. Does anyone know what size or capacity I should be looking for? It's gas and has been converted to 12v (though not sure if the starter is still the original 6v).

Thanks!

I don't recall offhand, but I can measure later if nobody answers. My recommendation is always "the biggest battery that will slide in."

Thanks! That makes sense- I just don't want to wind up with a battery that [i:6791a98d24]doesn't[/i:6791a98d24] slide in! I appreciate the measurements that you, or anyone else, may give. I've asked the seller but he has not replied and I'm hoping to pick up the battery this weekend.

So assuming yours still has the sliding tray, I measured the only one I could find and it was on a 550, because all the Super 55 trays were missing, but it should be the same...

14" l x 7.5" w x 8.5" h.

Now don't hold me to this, but I seem to recall that a group 65 will fit nicely without clearance issues. That's probably the best bang for your buck and can get you 850ish CCA.

Thank you- much appreciated! I'll pick something up and see how it fits this weekend.

While we're talking measurements, would you happen to have the measurements from inside-to-inside of the front and rear tires? I'm trying to figure out if I can pick the tractor up with a Uhaul car trailer and unfortunately the seller is not getting back to me quickly.

Depends on the tires and how it's configured. For instance the 550 we have is 48" front and 38" rear. We have another that has the wheels dishes out so it's way wider in the rear. Show us a pic of your tractor if you have one.

That U-haul should be ok, but I would think that if you have a U haul place near you, you might have an equipment rental yard that rents flatbeds for doing exactly what you need. ??

The Uhal trailer lists a minimum tread width of 41", so if the front tires are 38" apart like yours is then they wouldn't be fully on the deck unless I added some support with stacked 2x or something.

Unfortunately Uhaul is the only place I've found so far that is open on the weekends, which is the only time I can go pick up the tractor.

Just circling back to say that the group 65 battery does indeed fit nicely, and the tractor fit on the trailer as well! Thanks, everyone for your help- I am not the proud owner of this Super 55.

Now I'm waiting for manuals to be delivered so I can dig into some of its quirks and issues- I'm sure I'll be back with more posts about new problems and questions.
