Super 55 Governor

Ive got a 56 super 55 that goes straight to redline upon startup. I got it last year after it sat for ~8 years. I rebuilt the carb myself and havent adjusted it properly yet. What
else should I check to troubleshoot the high idle?

What do you mean straight to redline? Do you mean it has a high idle or it wants to runs away? There's no point chasing anything without the correct initial settings dialed into the carb.

Ok, so it sat for eight years without running. If this was the initial start-up, possibly the governor weights are stuck from sitting. They could be rusty or if the engine was dirty inside, dried residue, not letting the weights work properly. I saw this happen once. If, you had it running before you worked on the carb, something is way out of adjustment. Just my two cents worth.

When you pushed the carb back up on the manifold studs, you might have gotten the linkage rod stuck up against the spring on the other linkage.
