HELP
I have a 1953 International Farmall Super A which I obtained 6 months ago and it had not run in 10 years. After much effort it looks great and runs great now.

I do have one strange problem.

It seems impossible, but the hydraulic oil is leaking into the engine even though there does not appear to be any interconnection between those systems.

Does anyone have any thoughts of how that could happen?

yep russ is right that the only way for the fluid to get in the oil .
ive had a super a leaking for several years not too bad but leaking. I just run 30 weight motor oil in the hydraulic and the engine ever now and then I just drain the oil down and keep on keeping on

Common, simple problem. The oil seal on the hydralic pump has failed, allowing hydralic oil to escape from the pump into the engine
via the front cover, where it(pump) is attached to the motor.

YES, that has to be the problem. THANKS

It will be easy to get the pump off, but should I take the pump to a mechanic or can I replace the seal fairly easily?????

I have done a couple myself.
You can order a seal and gasket from CaseIH.
Just pay close attention, and take a few pics while you dismantle the pump. Check also look for a worn out shaft. If you need to replace the pump, they can be pricey.
I was able to get a good used one for $150Cdn. at a tractor wrecking yard.
Search for "Farmall Super A 100 130 140 Hydraulic Pump rebuild kit". You will find pictures of the seal etc...
My pump had an out of round gear. i.e. it no longer fit tightly on the shaft. You will also need the 2 o-rings on the end of the manifold where it connects to the pump.

There are 2 or 3 different versions of the pump, at least on a C,
so you may want to disassemble yours before ordering parts.
Some have an O Ring for a seal and some have a lip type seal.
You may have to use a speedi sleeve on the shaft also if a groove is worn in it. Not a difficult repair.
good luck

You just need to "rebuild" the pump completely if tearing apart for a seal replacement. Chances are it is the original pump and wear parts......or it could have been rebuilt only once in its life. Get the parts and rebuild. Numbers are stamped all over the pump. You can do it. Its easy if you'll take pictures and remember where each peice is oriented and where it goes. Add hydraulic oil in the pump when putting back together to "prime" it and so it doesn't run dry.

Upon reassembly, make sure the nut holding the drive gear on the pump shaft is locked properly. They sometimes work loose and wreck the pump shaft and possibly the cam gear.
