Super a oil pump w/pics

Hey fellas, i pulled the oil pump cause I didnt have good oil pressure, right on the line between red and white on the gauge. The gasket is certainly missing in spots and the gears have worn into the cover quite a bit on one side and slightly on the other...what do you suggest? It seams lije a lot of sanding to plane it flat, you can feel the grooves the gears made. But ive read that is what needs to be done. If so how to you measure for gasket thickness? Thanks, anthony

Yeah even a new one you'r only going to have pressure half way over, chances are you need new bearings too, after i put new bearing in i got 50 lbs of pressure hot at a idle, with 30 weight oil! I only use it in the summer.I got two oil pressure gauges,i put a Tee in the the line, the original, and a new number one, up by the steering wheel, there both maxed out at full throttle.

Heres the thing, i can't find any new ones, caseih is out of stock, bates too. Im thinking ebay and replace the entire pump since no one is selling just the cover.

you can still get a new bottom plate they are not cheap and gasket. Run a straight edge across the gears to see if they are flush and one is not higher than the other before getting the new bottom

$180 for a new one if i can find it, I'll see if my machine shop can machine it flat and I guess I'll look into the bearing cause something made that gear grind itself into the cover. I guess if all else fails ill hiy ebay or some salvage yards for a different pump. Thanks

Try All State Ag Parts or J.P.Tractor salvage Fredricktown MO. either one may have one. Could also try Harvey Gross in Montrose MI I was told he is open again. Friend said when he was by there he had an open sign on his sign now.
I think Harvey has a New Lothrop number 810 638 5569 should get him.

Yes sir they'll fit, if you come across one id be more than willing to pay you a fair price for it with shipping, let me know and thank you

I'll have to go out and look and see if I can find the oil pump out of the busted up A block It is why I built my BA. The A hit a tree and broke into a number of pieces

Gene, would the cover plate warping cause the gear to,grind into the cover like that or are you thinking the bearing or bushing might be shot? The 2 gears seem to be even with a straight edge, of I tip it up the loose gear wanta to fall, out so I checkwd it upside down. I appreciate your help.

Just came in from looking and the oil pump is not on the block any more so not sure where it maybe. I found lots of other parts of it but not the oil pump

Bad thing is I know I have one just not sure where it is. When I built the BA I used a block from a B and put the A engine parts in it since the B was locked up So I took the good parts from the A engine and popped the sleeves out of the B block and built a good running engine

From the picture it doesn't look that bad. The one I did was way worse. Just get a flat piece of steel and some sandpaper and flatten it out. You will need a new gasket. I would order one from Case/IH. The aftermarket ones are to thick, at least the ones I bought. You need to check the gear clearance with Plastigage. That is available from most any auto parts store. You will want to get the smallest they have. The clearances are pretty tight in an oil pump. You should see a huge increase in pressure just from replacing the gasket.

By the way, the bottom plate is still available from Case/IH. It's like $60, but don't quote me. I would rebuild what you have, you could by a used one that is worse shape than the one you have. I paid a PREMIUM price for a "Rebuilt" that was in worse shape than my old one. I sent it back.

He is not talking a bearing in the oil pump, but the bearings in the engine. When worn, the clearances in the bearings inhibit oil pressure being built. Not the news you were looking for I think.........

THe clearance on the cover to gear is .001 to .0005. A very thin gasket is used. butcher paper with a very thin application of copper coat speay on gasket sealer Is the way to go. Use smallest plastigauge to set the clearance. More than one gasket is often the answer if too tight. Machining the housing a tiny bit. is needed when more than 2 gaskets are needed. Jim

It is perfectly normal wearing into the cover over time. Usually the hardest part of getting a nice flat cover is because that portion of cover where the spring seats will be bulged up making a gap. Takes a lot of hand work on a flat surface, (nice piece of glass works good) to get it right. Have seen where guys make a strap over outside of that end for added support to prevent warping cover in spring area again. Cold weather, thick oil is what does it.

M'fine is a super 'frame, engine, hydraulics, rear end, with An A hood, front grill radiator, and gas tank all custom lol. I think a tree fell on it and they had an A in the hedge row to make it work, I call it the frankenfarmall hahaha

so the gears are ok the plate got worn when the gasket leaked. Didn't know the price was that bad its been a long time I guess when they were 60. Remember the gasket is very thin I will check tomorrow to see if I have a good one but I think that I did sell it but I will check.

I don't think that looks too bad, ours was like that, I sanded it a little, checked with plasigauge, put in the appropriate gasket, and it's been fine. Janicholson's advice saved me a lot of money and time! I think it cost less than $5, you could spend hundreds and not have any more oil pressure than I do.
