Super A Touch Control Piston Boots

I recently went through and redid the whole Touch Control system, and now I'm trying to get the boots on. The old leather boots were torn to shreds so I got some of the new rubber ones as they were cheaper than the leather ones. I've been trying to get the rubber ones to seat over the ridge protruding from the housing, but have had no luck. Any tips? I'd really love to make these works rather than spend $80+ on a set of leather ones. Thanks in advance.

I know exactly what your talking about , the rubber boots are terrible. I have not done one a long time . I’ll have to think about what suggest.
one thing I had an Amish tack shop in Middlefield ,I was going to take one to them and have them sew one or two ,
Go to an upholstery shop .
I hav not looked . at what messicks has to offer
I would not buy any rubber boots in the future jobs .

I gave up. The leather ones I had weren't that bad so I put the old ones back on.

Hate to say it, but the fact that you can't get the boots to stretch enough to fit now is an indication that if you do ever manage to get them installed, they will split in fairly short order.

Most leatherworkers don't work for free. I can't imagine them charging less than $80 to dissect your old boot and replicate it unless they owe you a serious favor. That said, this is pretty basic leatherworking. Cut the old boot apart at the seams to make yourself a pattern. Get yourself some thin leather, and the appropriate needles and thread from the local craft shop. Watch a couple of Jimmy Diresta videos on youtube. Now you're an expert. It's a dust boot in a concealed location, not a pair of dress boots. Doesn't have to be pretty.
