Friend has a Super "A" that he is having me list for him. When he bought it we noticed it had no s/n plate and no numbers behind coil on engine. Any other way to get a ballpark on the year of this thing. I posted a pic. Thanks in advance. Also , can't find fill plugs for axle drives where manual say they are.

Randy, What keeps that snow plow from going sideways, clear to the tires when not pushing even on both sides?

Looks exactly like my 51 but I don't know how many years they looked alike. You should be able to get some cast imprint numbers off several pieces such as right side of engine block to get year. Seems like it gives you month and year the cast was made. That will narrow it down.

It probably would if you angled the plow a lot. I don't think he ever plowed snow with it but a length of cable anchored to each spindle top and run to the opposite side beam would keep it centered and also let it go up and down too.

Your tractor has the old style tie-rod ends and a single zerk on the steering arm. I've got a reprint of a '53 owners manual that shows two zerks on the steering arm and new style tie-rod ends. I've got a '48 SA with a steering set up similar to yours. If anyone knows the year the zerk/tie-rod changes were made, your tractor would date sometime before that.

Look for date codes on the castings. Engine block, torque tube, are the easiest two to find. They're in the form of a month, day, and letter. The letter tells you what year.

Z is 1954
Y is 1953
W is 1952
X is 1951
T, U, and/or V is 1950
S is 1949
R is 1948

Kind of get an average of all the codes. They should all be the same unless some codes are late one year and some early the next. In that case the "next" year would be the likely year of manufacture.

Big plug on the final rite in front where the drawbar fastens. Something is missing if theres no # on the block that means the block has been changed and they forgot to stamp the serail# when they replaced it. Cast code on the tranny will be your next clue when it was made. Assy wasnt too far after part was cast that tractor was assembled. Block # wont be correct as it has been changed. There can be cast codes other places also but the one on the tranny next to the clutch is the easiest to find.
