Super A

Just bought a 1948 Super A with an extended left rear axle. Does the A and B axle fit this tractor? The rear wheels are too wide to fit between my grape rows so I want to put the shorter axle and housing on. Also need a battery box cover and the metal strip that covers the generator brushes. Thanks for any help.

Yep a guy can bolt most of the parts from a B right on to a A or Super A. I built a BA last fall. My BA is a B from the transmission forward and an A from the transmission back. Has duals on the left side and a single rear on the right side so it has 5 tires on it

Never heard of an extended axle on a A before. You can reverse the rim (or hub if you will) and mount the Tire 1 of two ways to adjust the width of the tractor. I know the B bolsters ( and perhaps this what you are refering to as the axle) will fit on a "A", not so sure about the C. E-Bay is one sorce for parts new and used, this site might also have battery boxes.

Sounds like a custom rig. To get it back to the original narrower footprint of an A/SuperA, you'll need to remove the housing and longer differential shaft between the tranny and the final drive. Replacement, if you can track down the part, is as simple as finding the shorter diff shaft of the A/SuperA, and bolting the final up directly to the side of the tranny. Some details to be seen to in the process, but that's basically it.

I've never heard of that before. It would seem to me that a B axle would be longer than even an A or Super A axle. To tell the truth, it would seem as if you bought a B with Super A decals. An A has the left tire close to the transmission housing, but a B has enough space for another seat between the tranny and the left tire.
