Super C 12 volt conversion

Hey, was going to convert my superC to 12 volt. I've bought the battery one wire alternator and some 10 g wire. I was needing to know where to purchase 12 volt bulbs for my head lights and work light ? And are there any other special problems to look out for? Thanks in advance LH

Very simple just take to old bulbs to an auto parts store and have them fine 12 volt ones that are the same as for how the base is. I do tha tall the time at my local O'Reilly's auto parts store. Matter of fact I just did that with a seal beam head light for a Case VAC not long ago

If the Super C is a 53 or later and still has the factory lights, they are a sealed beam type that is very expensive to find replacement bulbs for.

For a working tractor, just go get some new 12V flood lights in new housings and replace the originals. You can get 'em at <$20 each at Harbor Freight. Tractor Supply and Walmart also sell suitable units.

You could go completely modern and use LED units.

Put the originals away in a box and keep them for someone in the future that may want to restore the tractor back to original.

Most auto parts stores like Autozone or Advanced Auto or Pep Boys or O Reillys or NAPA or Car Quest etc etc will have the 12 volt bulbs, HOWEVER my preference is what I consider REAL PARTS STORES like NAPA or Car Quest lol If you want to use the new bulbs in the old mounts and housings just take the old ones with you and let them match up to 12 volt HOPEFULLY???

Other problems you asked????

You need a 12 volt coil (if a distributor ignition) or else use the 6 with a ballast resistor...........If you change to NEG ground (like most alternators are) and its a battery powered coil distributor ignition you need to swap coil leads (for NEG ground - of coil wires to distributor)................If it has an ammeter its leads need reversed or it will read bass ackwards,,,,,,,,,,,Starter can still work at 12 volts.................

Some times that works some times it does not and you still end up blowing them out due to alternator putting out 15 or so volts right after start up.

If you have the old style bulbs, I use the 1156 bulbs, they are brighter than the old 6 volt special head light bulbs and they are cheap & available all over.

ge 1143 are 12V, ge 1133 are 6V bulbs if you have the dear drop lights. My Super C has tear drop lights and i converted over to 12V.
