Super C Brakes

I'm going to remove the brake housings for an inspection as part of a tractor overhaul. When removing the lower housing bolt (6:00 position), it is covered with heavy oil. To avoid a flood, do I need to drain the transmission before removing the brake housings? I've never had one apart before.

There is no oil reservoir in the brake housing. Thus oil is not supposed to be there. Take it apart, no issue. Fix the oil seals to prevent future brake problems. Jim

I find oil in the brake area often to be a sign of water in the transmission/rear-end compartment. gm
