Super C Camshaft

This is a question about horsepower. The IH service manual shows the total cam lobe lift for the 123, and C-135 engine before serial #100,501 as .2400. The C-135 engines above 100,501 and the C-153 have a total cam lobe lift of .2740. Comparing the journal diameters between the two camshafts, they appear to be interchangeable. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not the additional .034 lift of the latter camshaft would produce a noticeable difference in power if installed in the 123 engine for the Super C?

BillB, if the additional cam lift was accompanied by an increase in displacement and/or a doubling or more in governed RPM (with additional professional balancing of the crank/rod/piston assembly and modifications to the bearings and oiling system), along with larger manifold ports, all else being the same, yes, it would make a difference. Within the ordinary limits of the engine design, not likely noticeable, not even on a dyno.

I have tried it and runs fine but can't tell enough to know anything was done, I also used a late 140 head and manifold and changed water pump etc. To much work and may have gained 1-3 horse power.

If u got any questions on camshafts, i would ask that guy in Algona Iowa, he is the real deal, very smart guy. He's got the camshaft service their .
