Super C Spark

I just replaced the wiring harness on my Super C, the old wiring had insulation cracked off on multiple wires which I thought were grounding out causing the issues of no spark and battery draw. Still no spark with the new wires. Points and condenser look good, I am going back to work on it this weekend, does anyone have any tips or trick on troubleshooting the no spark issue? Your help is appreciated.

Get yourself a 5 dollar test light. Start at the switch and work your way to the points.

Put a direct jumper wire to the coil from the battery if no spark you have found the coil or points are your problem. If you have spark then it is in the switch or connections from battery to coil.

Point can look good but need to be cleaned. You cannot look at a set of points and see with your eyes if they are good or bad. Only way you can know for sure if points are good is to do a spark test or and ohm test.

Do you have a 12 volt conversion and if so does it have a resistor or 12 volt coil. The resistors can go bad over time and then no spark.

I stayed with the 6v on this one, I am regretting my decision by not going to 12v as it cranks so slow on a new battery.

I hooked a jumper from the battery to the battery side (-) of the coil and no spark. I will look into replacing the points and condenser first. Thanks!

Thanks for sending this guide. I am going through them. I also did what caterpillar guy posted. When I got to the light test to the distributor side, the test light stayed on and never went out. Electrical issues can frustratingly times. The tractor ran when I parked it in the shed a couple years ago. I just put a new battery in it, disappointed that it doesn?t turn the engine over better. It does turn over faster when the coil leads are disconnected from the coil though. Is that a bad sign or normal. Thanks!

Look at your battery ground cable location. I moved mine to one of the starter mounting bolts. Cranks good on 6 volts.

On the coils output to distributor side if the light never goes out when cranking the points arent closing or badly burned or the wires open from coil to dist to points. The points have to close so the coil conducts current and then when they open the coil fires...?... An engine cranking hard or one that kicks back can be a sign of timing too fast.
