Super C vs. H

Good day all, just thought I would stoke some conversation on the topic of a Super C vs. an H. I have a 53 Super C w/fast hitch (runs well, super sheet metal including excellent grill) that I have had some
interest from folks that want to trade for an H. The H has equally nice sheet metal and both tractors are original 6 volt. Just wanted to get some thoughts from folks on a trade. I know the obvious things
like the SC being more mobile and having some options for fast hitch equipment (which in my area of NE Kansas, are pretty darn hard to find), lighter weight versus the heavier and slightly more powerful H
which could do some heavy duty type pulling in comparison. Appreciate any ideas and opinions!

You pretty much have it covered.

They're really two different tractors for two different purposes.

If all you want is something to putter around on, or park in your garage and admire, either will work.

If you have a purpose for one or the other, then choose the one that fulfils that purpose.

Couple of years ago I solved that dilemma - I own one of each. I think it comes down to what you want to use the tractor for.

Barnyard and Charlie covered it. The question for me would be what implements you plan to use with it and whether or not the H has an aftermarket 3 point or other hitch.

Also, you're not limited to fast hitch implements with the Super C. Fast hitch to 3 point converters are available which will allow the SC to be used with just about anything. This website sells them (see link). This website also sells 3-point add-ons for the H, but they are a lot more money.

I am pretty sure the Super's hydraulics are live (run off the distributor shaft), vs the H's transmission-driven lift-all. Others will correct me if I am wrong. The lift-all is manageable (I use it just fine), but extra clutching is required at times. But the only implement I use with it is a sickle bar mower.

Lastly, the health of each tractor is important. Nice sheet metal is one thing. Engine and transmission are another story. A strong running Super C will out-pull an H, Super H or even a Super M with broken rings, burned valves, spun bearings, chipped transmission gears, etc. So consider that unless you're looking for a project.

Good luck, Dave

I planned to possibly use a sickle mower, maybe a blade w/this Super C, nothing major at all. The same would be said for an H if I had one. I do like the ease and convenience of the touch controls on the SC, pretty slick and handy. This SC I have is solid mechanically and runs very well. Of course, I cannot be certain about anything I would entertain in a trade or purchase. I have no pressing desire or interest in letting my SC go, just like to get some thoughts and opinions. Thanks Dave!

I'd take the Super C all day long if it had a Fast Hitch. We had a new 1953 with a loader, cultivator, cycle mower, two bottom plow and a corn planter. When the M had a cultivator on it we baled hay with the Super C.

I got a Super C and Super M, Super M hasn't been out of the shed in a year and a half.
Forgot, that list of implements should include a rear blade.

I wouldn t let go of a super c. If you do you will miss the fast hitch and live hydraulics more than you think.

That is awesome, super sharp looking set up you have there! I wish I could find some fast hitch implements but I am just having a difficult time finding anything in or near my vicinity! Did finally locate a nice fast hitch sickle mower, but it is about 5 hours away from me. lol

If sickle mower and blade are your intended use, I think the Super C will give you all you need for power and the convenience of the fast hitch with touch control will easily beat the lift-all. The lift-all is functional but not ideal for anything other than very simple raising and lowering. Plus, you know the Super's history. A bird in the hand, so to speak.

If you like H's there are a lot around and you could probably pick one up. There's probably over 10,000 of them in Kansas alone. One has to be for sale somewhere.

Oh there are plenty of them around for sure. In fact, I had taken a piece from a drawbar into a machine shop for some work recently and we got talking about Farmalls. He asked me if I wanted a few more and when I asked him what he had, he said he had 2 Hs, both complete with good sheet metal, fenders, pulleys and both ran within the last year. The price you ask.....$650 for the pair, he just wanted them to vacate his premises. lol I'll be trying to go look at them here before long.

No amount of acreage that is suitable for the SC would provide an advantage to the H. A stage 2 Super H with live hydro and a after market 3 point sure. But not a plain H. Jim

I have both SC and SH.Both wide front.Yes the Sc is slightly more manuverable, but not by much. Plus the C only has a 4 sp tran.H has 5 sp.,and a lot more power. I'll tak the H.

I'm in ne Kansas as well. Try looking at Kansas auctions.net. There have been a few fast hitch implements showing up at small farm auctions. I was at one a couple weeks ago that had quite a few implements. They didn't bring much if I remember correctly.

Where are you in NE Kansas? I really don't have much use for an H but for that price I could put them to work.
