Super C will not rev up.

I have a 1954 farmall Super C tractor, that some time in the past, before I bought it, I believe the engine was replaced. About a month ago I was mowing my grass with a 6 foot finish mower and the tractor started sputtering like it was running out of gas. I had this problem a few years ago and I cleaned the carburetor and it took care of the problem, so I tore the carburetor apart and cleaned it, adjusted the float and put it back on the tractor. This time when I started the tractor it would not run above an idle, so I pulled the carb back off, cleaned it again, adjusted the float back to where it was before and put it back on again, The tractor will still not run above an idle. The engine did rev up just before I shut it down to work on the carb, but now it won't. The engine will rev up when I move the linkage that goes from the governor arm to the carburetor. Did something break in the governor housing, or was it something I did wrong ?

Check the large spring inside of the governor. While you have the governor check that the thrust bearing is good.

My guess is the thrust bearing in the
governor.Easy to fix.Order a book to
assist in the actual repair, and how to
properly adjust
The carb has nothing to do with your
problems

In the attached diagram number 5 is the spring that is
suggested as being broke or unhooked. Number 25 is the
thrust bearing that has been mentioned. The spring is
tensioned by moving the throttle to increase the speed.
When all is connected correctly it also moves the linkage to
open the carb throttle plate. Then as the governor weights
spin the centrifugal force pulls back against the spring to
hold the speed. If the spring is broke or unhooked the
centrifugal push of the weights simply hold the engine at
idle. If you need either of those part YT carries them. Does
not sound like it is your problem but just as information in
case you do not know. There is a screen in the fitting where
it screws the carb that can plug and slow down or stop fuel
flow. As far as your picture posting, you have to select the
multiple pictures you want to post when you go to the
..Choose files.. button. Then they should all post in the post
or reply which ever you are making. If you did this and it
still gave you trouble I do not know what the issue is.

You may have to remove the grill and then the fan shroud to have enough
room to get the governor housing off.
Keep track of the bolt placement/locations as they are different
lengths.
Their should be a small spring at the bottom of the housing. It is often
missing or broken off or both. It goes in a tube which is covered by
that big acorn nut. Look that over closely as it is easy to miss.

just take the nut off holding the fan then the fan will be out of the way to remove the gov housing just did one the other day
