super c wont fire

MY super C was setting at idle and shut off like it meant to. I've never seen this but the point spring broke. New points and condensor and no luck so I replaced coil also. Fire to the points and gas in the carb but she still won't fire. ???? any thoughts????

Welcome to YT forums and ASAP parts. Try looking closely at the point through bolt to the external connection. This sometimes grounds to the distributor housing. Clean the new points with a solvent on a tab of tag board then blow out with air to assure they are clean. They come with a coating!.. Jim

With switch on & points closed, check for 6 Volts at the wire [terminal]
which goes to the coil from the distributor. Should be close to 6 V.
Get points open & check for Voltage at the same terminal. Should be
zero Volts.
Let us know what you find.

I think you have it backwards. Points ground the coil to distributor side wire inside distributor so it should read zero volts with points closed and near battery voltage with point open

Hello RR, welcome to some active posting on YT! It does not have to be checked with a volt meter, an automotive test light will also work. Points open light on at the distributor terminal testing against a potential ground (meaning test light lead on chassis), points closed light off. If you don’t have this figuring out what has to be done to get there will make it run again. And to add one guy assumes you have a 6 volt system. If you have a 12 volt system and a ballast resistor before the 6 volt coil if that burnt out it would also be a problem. You say you have fire to the points so that probably rules out the resistor if you even have one.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! It is 12 volt with resistor so I went to get a new one and now they have a coil with resistor built in so I bought and replaced that. I have fire to the points now but nothing to the plugs. Could it be a junk condensor right out of the box? I have another one but I ran out of light and energy so I reckon I'll try that in the morning. R

Is the rotor Ok, Not broke. Cap look good no cracks. Something to check.

With respect and to be correct, there are no "resistors inside 12v coils. they are designed to run on full system voltage (like a 12v light bulb is for 12v. No matter what they say on the outside or box. Just more and thinner primary windings.
Testing the system. Use a volt meter and with the ignition on (less than5 minutes at a time) check the voltage at the connection to the distributor. If there is voltage there, the points must be open. Normally gas engines stop with the points closed. (just compression dynamics, not somehow intentional) thus if you test that connection for voltage and there is none that would be normal for points closed.
find voltage there and, with the cap off, you see the points closed, they are not working to ground the coil when closed.
Another way is to use a test light. Ground the probe and attach the alligator clip to the distributor infeed. Crank the engine as though you were starting it, ignition on. if the light flashes the points are working. Jim

OK guys the Super C is running and I'm too happy to be embarrassed whether I should be or not ! After doing everything all of you suggested somebody mentioned sandpaper. 30 seconds with a folded piece of 220 and a shot of brakekleen it started so fast it startled me!! Two nevers here. As I said in the beginning I've never seen the point spring break and as owner of an MT and the C Every other year points, condensor, and plugs has been my tune up for years and I have never sandpapered a new set of points. Is this a Chinese conspiracy or have I just been lucky???? OK ya'll can let me have it now!!!!

Don't feel alone. The last set of points that I bought I had to file them. That was the first for me too.
