Super Dexta engine

Just a question,are the engines of these tractors simply Perkins or is the short block the same as a Massey Ferguson?They have the same bore and stroke.

As I understand it, Ford and Perkins worked together to design the 3-dylinder diesel for the Dexta and Super Dexta, but it was either built by Ford of England (Fordson), or built by Perkins to Ford specs. I could be wrong... check on the Fordson board- there are guys there who can tell you for sure.

As I was told by a guy from Ford, the engine, designated the Ford F3, was probably the first instance of 'just in time' manufacturing. Cylinder blocks and cylinder heads were cast at Ford's Lemington foundry, they were then taken to Frank Perkins at Peterbrough and built up as engines, then shipped to the Ford tractor plant just out side of London. A days stock of castings were kept in Peterbrough, and a days stock of engines at Fords in case of manufacturing plant, or transport hold ups, so production could be maintained at Fords. The engine is essentialy the same as the Perkins 3.144 engine, but by no means identical.

Sorry, the engine is a 152cu" displacement in the Super Dexta, the 144cu" went in the Dexta.
