super h questions ??

Hi everyone! Just acquired a super h from estate of a friend.
Don't know much about it. I got it running and seem to run very
well and clutch seems good also. They put new rear tires on it
5yrs ago when it was last run and parked. Sheet metal is very
nice with no dents. Serial number is 25048mj not sure if its a
1953 or 1954?? Also what does the mj stand for in serial number?
Think it might be a stage 2 also battery is under the seat not
sure tho. I need to add remote lines to tractor so I can use it
for my hay equipment. Where can I get the lines from? Or who sell
a good set up for the line and fittings? Thanks for any input you
can give me on this tractor.

Battery under the seat and 'mag'(live) pump is a 'Stage two'. As far as I know,there is no such thing as a 'kit' for remotes. Just get a two spool valve and mount on the deck behind your right heel. then get the required hoses to plumb it up.You will need a supply/return hose,a pressure hose,and two hoses with couplers to the rear.
i have a 'Stage one'(Battery under gastank and belly pump)SuperH. pretty nice little tractor that gets plenty of hours every year.

Serial number says your SH was assembled around mid-year 1954. The M suffix indicates it has a "low speed attachment" which I think is an extra low 1st gear. And the J means it has a Rockford clutch. If the battery is under the seat and it has a live hydraulic pump it is a "Stage II" tractor.

Your local fluid power (hydraulics) dealer can set you up with hoses and couplers for the remote hydraulics.

I have both a '53 Stage I and a '54 Stage II Super H. Tough, reliable and handy tractors!

Basic tractor if equipped with hydraulics will operate a hydraulic cylinder one way, like lift and gravity down. For double acting use if it doesn't have a valve like the picture, one with the rear operating rod connected you need a valve and hoses and connections. Valve in picture was part of the remote control attachment from IH. Valve, rear lines and hardware was included. Hard to find with all parts for a stage 2 SH now. Openings on unit are standard pipe thread. To plumb in a operating valve, to rear of hydraulic unit is a 1/2 pipe opening that's plugged without remote control valve. Use it for pressure line to valve, use the one inch pipe thread opening for a return line. Can use a reducer bushing in for a smaller return line from valve. For pressure the operating lever needs pulled back and locked with the little tang below lever for a remote control valve. Or pressure to valve can come from any of the other pressure openings, but lever still needs locked back with another valve to operate a double acting cylinder. Don't know what hay equipment requirements you have. Probably won't have much over 1000 PSI at most with the tractor.
Probably best to get a operators manual number 1 004 373 R1 to learn about the tractor and hydraulics.
Don't think you have something different if you see the 2 little brass petcocks on the hydraulic unit side. I added those when unit was apart to ease checking hydraulic fluid level.
