Super H water pump leak

I have a 1953 super H and the water pump is leaking. Someone told me if I tighten the packing on the pump it will stop.If this is true, will it work,and how do i go about doing it. Thanks.

yes this is true, so now you will find out what water pump pliers are for,... this is to tighten the packing nut . only enough to stop the leak.if the packing is worn out you will need to replace it.
