Any tricks to dressing up these disc brakes for better performance?

They aren't that expensive to replace, if they are smooth and you rough them up they won't last very long before you have the same problem

Dad would lightly dress them with an angle grinder to break up the glaze.

If the total clearance in the stack is beyond .100" they won't work well. Check it on the bench with the components in the housing and a straight edge. .045" is good, .1 will not hold well at all. Jim
