SUPER M HARD STEERING

well being here on this end of the computer and not seeing for myslf as to what you call hard steering i have no idea . How did the shaft feel once you installed everything , was it free floating or was it stiff ?? Is the worm gear shaft float free or is it binding ?? even when everything is correct they still steer hard . I spent many hours on them in my youth and they were shell we say character builders and ya did not need to go to the GYM for mussel building . Now with old age i have been looking to add Power steering on my S/MTA . Last time i used it hard i was tryen to beat out the rain drilling beans with it and one had steering and lifting the drill while turning and getting back on the row after 54 acres of this in 10 hours and the last two rounds in the rain the next day i thought i was going to die and the day after i was hopping i was going to die and the day after that i knew i was going to die . And the last time i used it for work it sat on the blower at a friends place blowing silage up and 80 footer four three days.

Two things I can think of to check. Trust bearing installed so correct side was up or down and sometimes when the sector gear is pulled tight on the splines it will bottom out and take play out of the vertical shaft. If nothing is wrong with parts at bottom of shaft, sometimes the lower end of sector gear needs ground for clearance if that happens. Only found a few that needed ground but it happens.

The first thing I would do is get the front end off the ground and turn the steering wheel. If it is hard to steer it is mechanical. If it steers easy you might just need to air the tires up. When I am raking hay with the M and turning a lot I carry 45 pounds in each front tire. Ellis
