My new to me Super M will Die without warning,no miss or anything and then will start up after spinning over several times and this happens different times(hot and cold). Other then that It runs and pulls great. I noticed it has new points and condensor, it looks like old coil I guess 6v Should I run a 12v coil and condensor. It has been converted to 12v.I am thinking firing problem but any advise is appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my H a couple of years ago and it turned out to be the pull button switch. Connections were pretty thin from corrosion. I've got a similar problem now with my M and after a bit of pulling wires and checking with a volt meter is suddenly is OK - I'm thinking switch there also. If you have a volt meter you can check connections from the switch back and see where the problem is - that's how I found it on my M. Also if you have 12 volts with a 6 volt coil there is a resistor somewhere and thats a couple of more connections that could be going bad from corrosion.

In a nutshell,I believe the fuel supply is restricted somewhere?(You said it happens whether it is hot or cold.)

You COULD have an iginiton coil or resistor going bad,but that usually happens when they get over heated.

MOST likely:strainer inside the tank, then screen inside the fuel bowl, then screen at the carburetor inlet.

Put a test light on the coil where it attaches to the ignition switch. Run it when it quits, if the light is out, the switch, or wires need to be checked. If it stays on, further checking is needed.
The coil should be 12v or used with a ballast resistor. swap it with a known good one. Then see if it fails. Jim

I second that motion. I doubt it has anything to do with fuel.

My super m did the same thing. It would run a while then quit for no reason. Once running the suction in the fuel line was bringing crud in an clogging the supply at the jet. Unless ur fuel system is new and clean ,I would check it. Or you will waste money in coils and such.My Opinion

To find out if it's fuel, next time it happens, pull the choke.

If it's an ignition problem, nothing will happen.

If it's a fuel problem, the tractor should catch and run a little longer, or at least run differently.

Is the 6V coil wired directly to the ignition switch? It could be burned out from over-voltage.

There are two types of "12V coils." One requires a ballast resistor because it's really just a 6V coil labeled as a 12V to keep people from being confused when purchasing a coil for their 12V car. The other is marked "no ballast resistor required."

My personal preference is KISS, so I use the 12V coils labeled "no ballast resistor required."
