I agree, and I've seen a lot of old grease guns but never a long'un like this.Probably old enough to heave been made before grease came in tubes. You stuck the end in a pail of grease and pulled out on the plunger. Suction pulled the grease in to it.
View attachment 91935So, what's the deal with this super-sized grease gun? I wire brushed a little of the nasty, sticky gunk off the handle and part of the barrel thinking I'd find a mfg's name but no luck.
My Dad was a Mobil dealer. Always like the bigger cartridges when greasing equipment we had. I don't remember a brand on the grease guns, but they worked well.Just something that came to mind while reading your post. I remember when I was a youngster, that would be 1940's and later, that Dad always bought our lube and fuel from a local farm elevator/supply store and they sold Mobil products. Dad used bulk grease until the paper cartridges came out when we discovered that the Mobil cartridges were larger than the others, so we had to get new grease guns to accommodate the smaller cartridges and I'm sure the older ones that took the larger cartridges were scrapped, or just disappeared. Anyone remember that? I always hated reloading with bulk grease.
I have 2 of those hand guns. I filled them with my compressed air grease gun on a 5G pail of grease to use in the field. I used the 5G pail when I had equipment at the garage; it was much faster and easier. Many of those also had/have a fitting on the side of the pump head to permit bulk filling via a pneumatic grease run from a 30 or 55G drum.
