SuperA hydraulic fluid

Hello
I have a 1951 Farmall super A, I filled the hydraulics to just below the fill plug (As stated in the I.T. manual) No visible leaks anywhere, about 3 weeks later the hydraulics would not release and lower my Belly mower, I looked in the fill plug and couldn't see any oil, ended up adding a good 1/2 gal of hydraulic oil, Works fine now.
Question : where the hell is all the oil going ??? Is it possible there was that much air in the system?- And like I said there are "NO VISIBLE LEAKS" anywhere !!

Pour on the answers boys !
Thanks, Dave

That is precisely why I use engine oil for power steering oil in my semi's, So if I get a seal leak it doesn't hurt the engine. I would also use the same, on those hydraulic pumps fastened to the side of an engine. Like your cub. And like said check if the engine oil is rising.

ok then, Engine is way over filled so it sounds like the hydraulic pump has a bad seal, How hard is it to R&R the seal(s) and where can I buy them ?
Thanks

I bought my new seal from my dealer. Better change engine oil and filter before running it again. Try buying a speedy sleave from a bearing supply shop.
