Decided today to replace the old leaky PTO seal and this is what I found. Anyone seen this before? Doesn't make any noises or grinding, then again maybe thats cause it's half gone now.

When I took it apart both snap rings were in place where they should have been. Just bought this N about 3 months ago and needed to change the fluid and this is how I found it. It seems to be close to the diffy, not sure though this is my first tractor.

did you find any old rings in the sump after pulling the shaft? somethings been riding there!

OR.. it was broke and welded and ground down?

Nothing in the sump. Cleaned it all out today. I'll go for the broke and welded option. Maybe I'll just go ahead and replace it while I got the fluid out.

the turned down spot on the PTO shaft.
Is for A steady rest to ride on, while the shaft is being turned between centers in a lathe.
the steady rest is to keep the chatter out.
It is only there for the machining process.
in other words it is made that way.
