sweet corn planter

this year's sweet corn seed was smaller than same variety sent last year, and didn't fit
well in the plates that I have for the IH FH planter. I have a boatload of plates left
from the JD 494A planters that I used years ago, with some that were perfectly sized. I
had made up the FH tool bar, long ago, to go with JD 71 planter units, to plant in skips if they
happened. Combination worked great! Finished the 4th and last planting of sweet corn this
morning. It should be ready around Labor Day or just after.

Looks like a great set-up.
I have a 4 row 40 tool bar with Deere planter units that I don't know what model they are but they have the rotary moldboards on them. A little over kill for garden sweet corn planting but I have used it on several occasions, just wish I had a two row but don't want to cut up the 4-row.

I have a IH 184 one row for the Farmall 100 and son's 140. Those units do a good job for what they are, especially for garden or field re-planting type work. They are simple planters.

I believe there were adapters you could get back when plate planters were the only thing going and then you could use the Deere plates in other planters like AC or Ih and such. They were a plastic deal that fit in the center to drive the plastic ring plates for Deere.

You can always unbolt two units from the wider 4row toolbar.Just watch out for fences.LOL Or it wouldnt take much to buy a short length of 2sq(1/4wall) square tubeind and make a simple three point to carry it. BTDT many times.

that would be something to consider, but where? Lincoln ag products doesn't list anything. their only adapter was for Allis. All their IH plates are $45 each, which eats up sweet corn profits??? fairly fast.

Only Allis coild that be dome with as Deere and Allis the outside part af the plate was the same size. McCormick the plates are a bigger diameter so that bigger diameter plate cannot fit down into the floor plate of any other planter even if you could make a drive adapter. Now the Deere plates for the old horse drawn planters did have same centers as Allis so easy to use them without any adapters. The Newer Deere plates were made without the center drive so needed the adapter and it was cheaper doing that instead of making it an all in one plate like the horse drawm plates were.
