I read the post by TOH and saw the pix and now I am confused I have a 46 2n with a swinging draw bar on it but it is bolted to the bottom of the diffy. similar to the one on my 8n I am including pix of it and the left and right side of the rearend If you look at the 2nd pix you can clearly see the cast boss for the studs. What do I have? By the way great job on the brkt TOH as far as the machining I like it I would say it was the plan. An old timer once told me a sign of a true craftsman is how well he can hide his mistakes. good job.

Bits & pieces of more than one tractor.

I would say you have a center housing from a later model tractor. They switched over to the 8N in 47 so who knows when the new center housing started showing up on the assembly line....

I spent 40 years in the software development business and I am quite familiar with the "it's not a bug it's a feature" story...

PS> That is the 8N OEM drawbar - not the later swinging drawbar design

So if I am understanding correctly it could be as JMOR said bits an pieces or it could have come from the factory this way.I am the fourth owner and I know the 2nd and 3rd, 1st was the State of Vt. a road side mower.Father inlaw was 2nd owner He put the wagner fel on and cracked the oilpan / replaced it and as far as he remembers that was the only majer replacement. He was the only one to work on it for the 3rd owner. No idea what State of Vermont might have done. If Grampa Ray is a mut its ok with me starts first rumpa and does everything I ask no cvomplaints. Thanks for replys.

By the way in answer to soundguy about learning to drive on tractors I wasn't so fortunate. but my wife learned on Grampa Ray.
