I changed the top (tired) rad. hose on my 9N and did not encounter a thermostat. Since then I've come across some drawings in the Ford manual showing the stat and it's orientation in the hose. I also remember reading a precaution about not removing the stat permanently. I plan to use the 'ol girl to pull a Brush Hogg, do light gading with a blade and perhaps a little snow removal w/ the blade also. I live in the coastal side of Washington and it'll be stored indoors when not workin'.
Do I need to buy and install a new 'stat under these conditions? Thanks for the advice.

tooner.......ABSOLUTELY YES, you NEED a thermostat. Otherwize the engine will NEVER gitt hot enuff to boil off the combustion byproducts in the oilpan and you will have gunky oil deposts stickin' to the sides of yer engine. Remember, the T-stat pointy end faces the radiator. some use extra radiator clamp to keep the T-Stat in place next to the block outlet. ........Dell, RockyRidge SheepStation at the foot of 14K Mt Rainier

Thanks, Dell. I figured as much but didn't recall anybody talkin' about t-stats(or lack of)and I don't think I saw anything in the "50 tips" about 'em either. I checked the photo of the one sold here at YT. Looks like a normal wax pellet design but with a long barrel (to keep it straight in the hose, it appears). Based on the YT price it must be a one of a kind :).Thanks for the info...Although the 9N 'll be mowin' 2 acres in Kalama in a year two, I'm from Sandy for now, in the foothills of Mt. Hood.
