Tach Cable Question

The short tach cable went bad on my 5610 Ford, I got one at New Holland and have tried for 2 days to get it in and I'm beyond ------ off at it right now, with the round cover on you can't get it into the square hole, so I removed the cover and tried it that way but you can't see in there good enough to guide it in the square hole. I've tried an Endoscope and a bright light (with the oil filter removed) but still no luck. Is there a trick to this I don't know about? The parts man at ford said it bends down and goes right in.....yeah right. If it had a tube to hold it in place and guide it to the square hole things might be different.

I've never had a problem doing it just like your parts guy said. Are you sure the old one is fully extracted from the oil pump drive gear?

With... a loader on the tractor, I tried many many times to get it in.. and failed horribly?????

With the loader removed, where I could actual see into the hole, did it on the first time. HOWEVER,, I remove the cap, inserted the cable into the cap, and then lowered the cap while directing the end cable into the square drive hole. Had to hold my finger over the top of cable to keep it from slipping out of the cap while lowering, and bending the cable into the correct position.
