Tach for 3400

I have a 1969 gasoline powered 3400 that had an alternator conversion on it when I bought it. Its my understanding the tach was driven off by the generator. What are people using for tachs on alternator conversions? Is there an electric tach that would work?

I bought a newer tractor last year and would like to sell this one. The few inquiries I have gotten seemed as if not having a tach was a deal breaker. Personally, I never missed it but if installing one helps sell the tractor I will install one while cleaning up a few other things.

It can be done. I think the alternator spins the wrong direction for the original tach. Some of the newer 7 series models drove the instrument cluster from the oil pump on the left hand side of the block below the oil filter had a 7700 that did this. My 5000 drives straight off the generator. Have
also seen different cluster gauges advertised which read clock and counter clock to deal with this challenge depending on the rotation of the inputs drive. Anyway that is all I have. It can be done do the homework and you will solve the problem.

You can the the alternator conversion kit for a for Ford 3000 Alternator conversion kit that will work perfectly on your 3400... as they use the same exact engine, and tach. Thanks to politics the price is now 1/3 higher, nearly $184. The kit will even make the generator light work correctly.

Yeah, Im not going to dump a bunch of money into something I dont need on equipment I am not going to keep. The Delco alternator on it is working fine, especially after I ran a field wire to it. I did an internet search and found some electric tachs for marine use for less than $60 that should work. No one has ever asked me if the gauge cluster works, just if it has a tach.
