Tach Rotation

I bought a new cable for my tach, I cleaned up the old one and it turns freely but when I hooked it up it tries to turn backward. I can check it with a reversible electric drill and it works as it should so I know the tach is working as it should. Is there some sort of reverser that is supposed to be on the cable or engine to make it turn in the correct rotation.

On a Perkins engine the tach rotates counter clock wise.

I agree but the old tach that was on the tractor was the same. I think I have an old right angle reverser I can use to change the rotation.
