Tachometer signal location

I purchased a 1959 Ferguson TO35 Deluxe
It was converted to 12 volt, so I dont have a proof meter.
I purchased a std tachometer that fits in the hole the old proof meter sat in.
My problem where do I get the signal for the tachometer.
Also I was reading someone manufactured a alternator that has a proof drive on it.
Thank you all for your help
Kevin.

12v conversion has no bearing on proof meter situation. Yours may have been factory 12v anyway, I'm not sure when the changeover occurred. Originally yours had a generator with a tach drive off the end. This is a picture of the original setup on my TO-35.

You can get alternators with a similar drive, although they don't give them away. Be aware that it changes the length of the cable needed such that original cables are too short. Custom cables are available, but just like the alternator, kinda pricy. Picture is of a TO-30 with an alternator conversion, tach drive, and custom length cable. TO-35 is similar.

By tachometer signal, I'm thinking you got an electronic tach.? Try hooking it up to where the primary wire that goes from the coil to the distributor. Not the one going to the center of the distributor cap of course. See if that works.

Jim, I would like to find a tachometer for my 1948 TE-20 with the 6-volt system. An electronic tachometer might be my best bet. I'm looking for simplicity. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you!
