tank heaters

I am having trouble with scale on sinking stock tank heaters. I have very hard water and these things only stay clean for a few days. I have been cleaning them with a solution called MSR it works but not very good. Mostly have to use elbow grease. Does anyone know of a product that will disolve the scale any better? I use treated and softened water for the house, but cant really do this for outside water.

Go to a restaurant supply store and ask for limescale remover. If you have friends that need it and can take 48 4x1 gal. cases I can get it shipped to you.

Scale makes the heater less efficient, can cause the element to over heat, and cause premature failure. I have also seen scale eat a hole in the element allowing stray power in the tank.

Back in the day we had 2 heaters. One in the tank and one soaking in vinegar. Just swapped the scaled up one out with the clean one. It was nice to have a spare when one failed.
