Dennis Carpenter Restoration Parts sells part number T-6500-PR which is described as a pair of tappet adjusting wrenches (1939-1952). There is an illustration but the devices are strange looking to me. Does anyone have an idea of how the T-6500-PR is utilized ?

This site sells them.

In addition to the tools you also need a thin, open end, wrench 3/8" (the best I recall), but don't hold me to that.

The valve tools kinda lay on top of the lifters, and have little tangs that drop in holes to keep them from turning while you turn the wrench to adjust them.

Dick:

These tools are misnamed, and are better named, e.g., tappet adjusting locks. Like Dunk has already told you they prevent the tappet from turning when you adjust valve clearance by turning the interference threaded adjusting bolt.

In times past, thin, open ended wrenches were commonly called "tappet wrenches" because they were useful for adjusting adjustable valve tappets with (non-interference) threaded bolts with lock nuts.

i easily solve this problem by drillng a 1/8 hole in the lifter bore, put a drill bit in backwards, and the tappet is set perfectly.

What always seems to happen to me when I used these was that the little "tang" would break off. I would always end up with half a set and need to replace the broken one.
