bought a used taskmaster that had been sitting. brakes were locked up. i freed up the left side and discovered the right side already turned freely even though the brake disc remained stuck in place. mine is twisted off! have any of you tried to replace the splined shaft that drives the brake disks? does it require parting the whole rear unit or can the brake housing be removed from the outside? alternately can the broken shaft be mig welded successfully if the tire and fender are removed to gain access? i have maybe 1/4 inch clearance from the back of the brake housing but what is concerning me is getting it centered again. and does anyone have a taskmaster parts source in the USA?

Guess we’ll have to change the name of this site to Yesterday’s(by a huge margin)Tractors.
KTF, welcome to YT! Believe it or not the majority of tractors discussed on these forums were built in 1980 or before. Sounds to me like you bought what I would call a “pay me now, or pay me later tractor” your about to step into the “pay me later” phase. Hopefully someone on here is familiar with that thing and can help you out. I am predicting it to be a long shot.
