TCH Fluid Replacement/Alternative

Looking to change the transmission/hydraulic fluid in my 730 CK COM and it is calling for type a transmission fluid or TCH. Can I use Kendall Hyken 052 or Phillips Powertran as a replacement or any suggestions? Thanks, Chris

Thanks I just called my local Case dealer and TCH is $103.25 for 5 gallon. I can buy dealer filled HY Gard for $62 for 5 gallon.

JD oil is a good alternative , Avoid Hyken 052 like it was the plague, Ask Brokengun about off brand oils before you use any, Don't know much about your other choice but feel the Hytran and Hygard are both quality oils.

You might check other posts for this. I have an 830 CK with Case o matic and use simple Dexron 3, affordable, works great, stops gear grinding and is recommended by lots of members when I asked the same question. Apparently Dexron 3 is a replacement for Type F.

Did you mean type a? My books calls for TCH or type a transmission fluid. How long have you been using Mercon III?

Your local CaseIH dealer will have TCH oil. I am a firm believer in using OEM lubricants, fluids and parts. You ain't saving much using "will fit" parts. That includes oils.

Dexron III, Mercon, same fluid. I have been using it for about a year now. Used to use Hy tran but it made the gears grind. I spoke to a few guys and I posted and posted it on this web site, you can look at all the comments. Also Dexron III/ Mercon replaced type F fluid.

Mel!! I've been using Hyken 052 for several years now, what is wrong w/ it? I used it 35 years ago, then got away from it, but went back to it. Been around for many years. Contrary to what has been said, TCH is not that easy to get.

Case used Dextron 3 long before they came out with Hy-trans. which replaced there TCH fluid they (Case) marketed.

My old 600, 1000, and 580 hoe have had Dextron in them for years,
Tom

The transmission and hydraulic oil are two separate reservoirs. The hydraulic/Case-O-Matic oil should be type A automatic transmission oil. Dexron automatic transmission oil is a good substitute. Case/IH-trans/hydraulic oil is another good substitute. The transmission/rear end uses the heavier gear oil. 90W gear oil should work okay. Putting Dexron, or Case/IH transmission oil in the hydraulic reservoir and transmission/rear end would be if hydraulic fluid is leaking into the transmission. When the hydraulic reservoir gets low on oil and transmission has extra oil, you can suck the extra oil out of the transmission and put it back into the hydraulic reservoir. If this is the case with your tractor the Case/IH-trans/hydraulic oil would be a better choice.

I have attached a pic from my operators manual that states the transmission/hydraulic reservoir is 18 gallons and is one common reservoir.

Most modern Case oil charts will show HTU as the approved recommended oil for most previous TCH applications, the exception was the transmissions on all the Case crawler transmissions up to the Hydrostats. I just checked the torque converter oil specs for a 530CK torque converter and it is HTU recommended by Viscosity oils charts, the manufacturer of Case's lube products. I do not expect that info to change anyones mind though.
