TD8E DT239 Turbo

Hello all,

I am trying to replace a turbo on a 1978 TD8E with the DT239 engine. The turbo is a AiResearch T04B20 turbo and I am having some difficulty getting the exhaust to match up with the turbo. The easiest way is probably to look at the pictures. Sorry for the bad picture it was done on my phone. It looks like there is supposed to be a clamp or maybe a type of pipe that fits into the turbo and exhaust. I had to give them the old turbo for a core so I can"t go back and look at it.

On my Komatsu there is a mormon type clamp on the turbo and it appears that the flange for that clamp on the exhaust side is rusted away.

I can go out and check on my microfische but I am sure there is a cast sleeve that uses a piston ring on each end to join the exhaust manifold to the turbo. It was probably rusted into the turbo and you sent it back with the core.

Thanks for the replys, the cast sleeve is exactly what it was. I did end up giving it to the shop with the turbo. It was very rusted and I had to purchase a new one. It was $87 is there anything on these that are cheap???. Anyway I'm all set and back up and running thanks for the info.
